Dsegh – Odzun – Kobayr – Alaverdi/overnight stay/ - Sanain – Aghpat – Akhtala

Village Dsegh is located on the edge of a chine in Lori Province of Armenia. There are two sights in the village: the first is a colorful landscape and an ancient Kobayr Monastery, and the second one is the hometown of a great Armenian writer, poet and public figure Hovhannes Tumanyan.

Odzun Monastery was built in the VI century; it is located in the village of Odzun in Lori Province of Armenia in the east of the historical Province of Ggugark. Odzun Monastery refers to the most beautiful early medieval buildings of Armenia. In the VIII century it was refreshed by the same Hovhannes Odzuneci. Exactly then that typical for Armenian Church architecture dome basilica enriched with colorful murals inside and rich screw-threads outside.

Kobayr Monastery was built in the end of XI century by the princesses of Armenian clan of Kyurikyans. The ruins of the Monastery are famous first of all by their unique wall paintings – murals, created in the traditions of Armenian and Byzantine painting.

Alaverdi town is 167 km from Yerevan, on the steep slopes of the canyon of the River Debed at the height of 750 to 1400 meters above sea level. It is known as the center of the copper industry of Armenia. Alaverdi is known from the III-II centuries BC under the names "Manitsom Gom", "Manes". It was located in the historical region of Gugark. In the sources this settlement was referred to as a fortress with a settlement. Since the XIII century, it has been referring to as a place of production of copper.

Sanain Monastery is located in the village of the same name, on a small mountain plateau, near the canyon of the River Debed, at the height of 1000 meters above sea level. The Church complex refers to the X-XIII centuries. Both of the Monasteries are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Haghpat Monastery is located about 7 km east from Sanain. Presumably, it was built in the X century, one of the largest monastic complexes in Armenia, which has unique features of Armenian medieval architecture.

Akhtala Monastery is near Akhtala village in the North Armenia in the valley of the River Debed, was built in the X century by Kyurikyans and Bagratunies. This a monastery with interesting history and an expressive interior. The uniqueness of the Monastery is its well preserved murals.
