On January 6, Holy Christmas is celebrated in Armenia. The Armenian Apostolic Church on this day celebrates the Feast of the Epiphany and Christmas of Jesus Christ. The holiday begins on January 5 at 17:00 and lasts until midnight, in the evening of January 5 a liturgy is served, which is called the Christmas Eve Liturgy. On this day, believers light a candle in the church and take lighted lamps and candles to their homes to bless the house and prepare for the feast of the Christmas. And on January 6, the Christmas Liturgy is served in the morning, after which a rite of blessing of water is performed - in memory of the Baptism of Jesus Christ.
Christmas in Armenia is a family holiday that gathers relatives and friends at the festive table and, as expected, the presence of a festive cake, painted eggs, fish, pilaf with raisins and dried apricots, as well as red wine, is necessary.
