Areni Festival is an annual wine festival celebrated in Armenia. Traditionally, it is held on the first Saturday of October in the village of Areni. This small mountain village was chosen as the venue for such a momentous event for a reason. Not far from the village, archaeologists found the remains of an ancient winery, which, according to some sources, is about 6100 years old. In the village of Areni are produced wines, which have become popular not only in Armenia, but also abroad. On this day, a large fair opens in the village, where guests and tourists can taste different varieties of the best wines, cheeses and various national dishes of Armenian cuisine. During the festival, you can see toast contests, performance of folklore groups, riders’ competition and other entertaining events.
